What is chronic pain?

Chronic pain is pain that has lasted longer the normal healing time of about three months.

What does self-management mean?

Taking responsibility for one's own behaviour, health and well being, working in partnership with relevant parties, using skills and strategies to achieve the desired personal and professional outcomes and take control of your life.

Is medication the only way to deal with pain?

No, are many things you can do to help with pain using a combination of different methods.

What is meant by peer education?

Peer education or peer delivery is an approach to learning where the facilitators have been through similar experiences and challenges that the client group is facing and are therefore better placed to provided relevant, meaningful and honest information and empathy.

Can I sit in on a program to see if it would be right for me?

Everybody attending a program is expected to take part, it is not fair to the rest of the group to have observers sitting in. However, before you attend a program the Leap SA facilitators will discuss the program content and format with you to ensure it is right for you.

How long are your programs?

Depending on the program, they range from hourly modules , two and a half hour sessions, half day programs, full day programs or multi day.

Who facilitates the programs?

All programs are facilitated by Jenny Bennett and Vivienne Tomlinson, who have collectively over 30 years of experience in program writing, delivery and training.

Do you offer train-the- trainer programs?

Yes, we offer the CDSMP, Stanford Chronic Disease Self Management Program and TIPS, Training In Pain Strategies.

Yes, all workplace programs can be tailored to address the needs of your organisation. During our initial consultation we will work closely with you to identify the needs and outcomes you require
